New York Photography Workshops
This website is intended to help improve creativity using conventional cameras as well as smartphone cameras.. Hands-on classes and field trips are being offered so people of all ages can learn the fundamental techniques turning ordinary snapshots into dramatic images. Classes for the fall and winter seasons are already scheduled. Details about spring and summer 2026 classes will roll out next January. Field trips around Rochester and in the Finger Lakes Region will be coordinated with upcoming classes. Join up and turn your vision into images and your images into reality.
PHOTOGRAPH THE FOUR SEASONS
Each season, New York Photography Workshops (NYPW) offers workshops keyed to fundamental skills for that season. The classes include an initial zoom meeting for everybody to get acquainted, followed by two in person sessions, then a field trip to practice the skills learned. Then follow up classes to critique your photos plus to how edit your images for posting and printing. The initial zoom meeting occurs on a Monday evening. The following classes are on Wednesday evenings. Outdoor field trips are scheduled on Saturday afternoons. Indoor field trips are scheduled at various times depending on the venue. Scroll down to see the classes offered for the fall and winter seasons. Spring and summer classes will be rolled out next January. The price for a full month including the zoom meeting with all classes and field trip is $195 per person. Bundle two months together for $349. Bundle three for $498 and save even more. Fall Series
October Classes
Learn the Basic Camera Settings for general landscape and outdoor portraits, how lens Aperture and camera Shutter Speed interact creating the exposure, and how camera ISO affects the dynamic range, noise levels and brightness of an image. These simple adjustments are the basis for any camera including film, DSLR or mirrorless. Understanding these concepts will help when photographing your children, pets, sports, landscapes, wildlife and portraits.

November Classes
This month, we will learn how to compose Color, Structure and Texture in a scene, learn which Camera Settings work the best to achieve the results we are looking for, learn about Shadows and Highlights and how to bring out the details in a scene and learn about Depth of Field and how to Focus the lens for different situations. All of which are important skills for making dramatic images that draw attention.

Winter Series
December Classes
Time to move indoors and check out the Eastman House & Museum in Rochester. A great place to not only learn some photography history, but how to get creative with your camera. Using the natural indoor light in the Eastman House is a great teaching tool. How to use wider aperture settings and slower shutter speeds to create soft images with dramatic depth of field and smooth bokeh. Skills learned here can be used for all sorts of photo projects in your own home during the holidays and upcoming special events with your children.

No need to wait until spring to photograph plants and flowers. Learn good composition, the Rule of Thirds, about negative space and other elements that turn an average scene into a great image. All skills that can be used when visiting the many Rochester parks with their magnificent trees and blooms.
