Photographing birds can be challenging. Fussing with the camera getting all the settings right. Trying to get the bird in focus before it flys away. Adjusting the angle for the best light. Yikes. We’ve all seen great bird shots, but how do people get them? Sometimes it’s a lucky shot, but more often it has to do with some knowledge, prep and skill.

Learning fundamental camera settings and getting past that element is the first step to getting good photos. Once over that hurdle you can spend more time finding the birds rather than messing with the camera.

A bird photography lesson is the best way to start. Once you know the tricks, then you can set out when the birds are active and the weather is good.
